Scholastic
India (Pvt) Ltd is a subsidiary of Scholastic Inc, a
USA based company, which has since 1920, introduced young people
to the joy of reading. Scholastic India's mission is to provide
children with reading and learning opportunities that will cultivate

Bahl, regional co-ordinator, Scholastic India. They work with
authors and illustrators for publishing children's books developed
by them and for setting up a co-publishing programme to assist regional
publishers bring out quality books in Indian languages. "As
part of Scholastic Educational Services, we organise workshops for
educators on creative teaching, and on inculcating the habit of
reading. We also hold activities for children on book-related subjects.

a child's life, and we are committed to bring to our children the
joy of reading and learning," Bahl adds.
Scholastic
School Book Fairs are an effective means of promoting the habit
of reading among school children. The book fair exhibit thousands
of books, in English, Hindi and regional languages, in the friendly
setting of the school environment. They also mark an exciting reading
promotion event with book related activities for children, parents
and teachers.
Scholastic publications present a clear explanation of current
affairs and contemporary thought, and encourage literary appreciation
and expression consistent with the understanding and interests of
young people at all levels of learning. These books empower children,
and by getting them in the habit of applying their mind, make them
creative.
The Book Clubs are a convenient and effective means of providing
children the best from the world of books, at the lowest possible
prices. The book club service is now available to more than 22,00,000
families in around 150 cities all over and they help parents select
appropriate books for their children. The titles offered are selected
by educators and editors and are age-specific. Scholastic school
book clubs assist children and parents in making the right choice
by providing, every quarter, the opportunity to pick from age-appropriate
sets of the latest and the finest books, in English and Hindi, and
CD-ROMs. The club titles indude picture and activity books, works
of fiction and non-fiction, books on science and other titles for
learning, and reference works. These books are offered at lower-than-market
prices, even lower than their own book fair prices. "We
run three Scholastic school book clubs - for preschoolers to class
3, classes 4 & 5, and classes 6 to 8. Thrice a year, we make
preliminary selection of books and CD-Roms suitable for the intended
age groups. Members of our advisory group comprising educators from
well known schools examine these, and titles approved unanimously
are offered through beautifully designed annotated lists called
Student News," says Bahl on their children friendly strategies.
