  Fabric

Not only can you buy humble cotton in Mumbai; you can also pick up some exquisite fine wool, silk and synthetic fabric at a good price. One can choose between Fabric Markets, where a large array is available under one roof, or Fabric Stores. Check out the silk and sari shops lining Maharshi Karve Road between Churchgate and Marine Lines Station. Some of the major stores here are Kala Niketan, Roop Milan, Roop Sangam, Queens and Indian States. Exquisitely crafted lace can be bought from Shamsheth Lane in Kalbadevi.

Mangaldas Market

Across the road from the main Crawford market parking lot and 100 metres down Sheikh Memon Street is the Mangaldas Market. Here the tiny shops are built on a raised platform, and shopkeepers sit comfortably on gaddas (beds) placed on the floor. If you are looking for a one-stop shop for fabric, Mangaldas Market is the place for you. This huge indoor cloth market sells everything from suit fabric to silk material. Most sell specific fabric. While one shop stocks only silks, another has printed cotton and a third sells only synthetic shirtings.

Hindmata Market

Located at Parel, this cloth market has been a favourite haunt of the middle-class Mumbaite for decades, because of its affordable prices.
