now palm size - Philips' new MP3 players
Think Philips and you think of your faithful radio back home. One
that is almost as old as you. Today, the company is no longer targeting
your grandfather, but Generation Next. This was evident when they
threw open doors to the digital age with their new MP3 family -
portable music players, CD players with MP3-CD playback, FW-V55
and V39 VCD mini hi-fi systems.

MP3 players - Latest in the Philips range
The
palm sized portable player, RUSH is a palm-sized, 100% shockproof,
solid state digital audio player that records and plays MP3 files.
This pocket-friendly player is only heavy on the pocket because
of its price - Rs 23,990. RUSH comes with RealNetworks - RealJukebox
software that manages the users personal music and helps in creating
and editing compressed digital MP3 files that are downloaded from
the Internet via a computer. This device comes with a removable
64 MBSmartMedia Card and promises more than one hour of CD quality
music, which can be endlessly erased, overwritten and reindexed.
RUSH has been designed to give consumers easy access to the vast
array of audio material available on the Internet. This elegant
device measures 7x7 square cm, 1.7 cm thick and only weighs 50 grams.
It runs on two AAA batteries and can provide up to 12 hours of playback
in extended Long Play mode.
Another
addition to the Philips MP3 range is EXPANIUM, a portable
CD player that incorporates MP3-CD playback, and can play up to
10 hours of MP3 music on a single disc. The device comes with Magic
ESP anti-shock, which maintains constant playback by automatically
storing 100 seconds of MP3 music compressed at 128kbps in a buffer.
The FW-V55 VCD mini hi-fi system has awhopping 2000 Watts
of music power, a 3-VCD
changer with a 2-way bass reflex speaker system. There are a host
of other unique and advanced features like super error correction,
9 screen preview, resume A-B repeat, incredible surround, virtual
environment control, digital sound control, dynamic bass boost as
well as 2 surround sound speakers. The VCD costs Rs 21,990.
Philips DVD761 DVD-Video player allows playback for DVD,
super VCD, VCD, CD and MP3 formats. The feature-rich system comes
with a built-in Dolby digital decoder, language and karaoke learning,
and advanced DVD-video technology including 10-bit video DAC and
24-bit audio DAC. The system has full-featured karaoke with 2 microphone
inputs, echo and key control, parent control and lock, as well as
a 5 disc resume, for uninterrupted viewing.
The
company launched its MP3 range with a bang with a week long Rush
Road Show covering various colleges and youth hangouts in the
city. Besides the road show, game kiosks were set up at various
centre points in the city like Crossroads, Yoko's, Tensim and Cine
Planet. "Philips has the world's first and largest range
of MP3 compatible players. 'Philips MP3 Mania' has been conceptualised
to reach out to youth, to give them an opportunity to experience
the latest from the Philips MP3 family," Rupam Ganguly,
