NOT JUST JAZZ BY THE BAY

In the beginning there was Jazz by the Bay. ForKaraoke Night over two and a half years, it catered to the Jazz loving audience of Mumbai by featuring live Jazz performances every night. The Jazz lovers lapped it up. Unfortunately, the numbers of Jazz fanatics in Mumbai dwindled and as the clientele got younger and the younger clientele got richer, there was a demand for more variety in the music. Thus two years ago, the prefix Not Just got added to the name and was born Not Just Jazz by the Bay. They have live performances seven days a week. Four days a week there is a live band, twice a week is the Karaoke night and there also is one solo performance per week. The music could be rock, Not Just Jazz by the Bayblues, fusion and yes, jazz. Some of the better bands of Mumbai play here. The crowd is motley of the young and the not so young. Actually, more of the latter. From 12 to 3.30 in the afternoon, Not Just Jazz by the Bay has a soup, salad, sandwich and dessert buffet. (Rs. 223/- inclusive of taxes).

Timings : 6 pm to 2 am.

CYCLONE

Cyclone is as high end a disc as you will get in this city. Attention has been paid to every detail. Fresh flowers, potpourri, perfumes and exquisite crystal greet you at the entrance. The lighting inside is pulsating and hypnotic, with computerised, video generated effects created by ‘The Emulator’ and ‘Robozap’. The whole visual experience is termed ‘Kaleidovision’. The split level dance floor is surrounded by the ‘Wall of Sound’. The idea is to allow conversation in the seating area while 3000 watts of sound hits the dance floor. Cyclone was one of the first to have Karaoke with the user friendly push button Laser Disc system that allows you to dial the selection to a computerised song selector. The selection is played by the Karaoke jockey in private Karaoke rooms. The same plush rooms can be used for private entertainment. Cyclone also has a recreation room that offers pool, chess, backgammon and television for you to chill in. The music played knows no boundaries. They are very comfortable meeting any request, and are happy play the odd Hindi film number. The crowd is mixed and Cyclone prides on being a club that you can bring anyone.
