Sun City is the venue for Indian filmi glitterati

The Kelvinator IIFA Awards TrophyThe forthcoming Kelvinator IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Awards for the year 2001, will be held at one of the worlds most celebrated and picturesque venues Sun City, South Africa on Saturday, June 16,2001. Kelvinator IIFA Awards is an International forum, which promotes Indian cinema and the coming together of the Industry at a global level.

The Kelvinator IIFA Awards has partnered with Sony Entertainment Television to broadcast the Kelvinator IIFA Awards live across India, the Middle East and all other Asian countries. Kunal Dasgupta, CEO, Sony Entertainment Television, said, “This will be a prime offering to our viewers all the way from Sun City, and I believe that performances from superstars like Hrithik Roshan, Karisma Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar, along with all other major entertainment lined up will be a major attraction.”

Ramesh Sippy, addressing the audience at the Kelvinator IIFA Awards Press Conference held in Mumbai. Nominations for the popular categories were also announced today including Actor in a leading role, Actress in a leading Role and Actor in supporting role among others. Mohabateein, Kaho Na Pyar Hai and Mission Kashmir received the maximum number of nominations. The first IIFA Awards were held in June 16, 2000 at the Millennium Dome, London. This year Sun City will have the opportunity to witness a glittering star-studded ceremony, where the best in the Indian Cinema will be awarded. The performers at this year’s Kelvinator IIFA Awards include superstars from the Indian film industry like Hritik Roshan, Karisma Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar and prince of pop fusion Taz (Stereo Nation) amongst others. Current Miss World Priyanka Chopra and Kabir Bedi will host the awards.

IIFA Awards Advisory Board Members comprises luminaries from the Indian film industry like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Yash Johar, David Dhawan, J.P. Dutta, Jeetendra Kapoor, Pahlaj Nihalani and Ramesh Sippy. Speaking at the nomination announcing ceremony in Mumbai, Ramesh Sippy, renowned Film Director & Producer, said, “It’s a pleasure to see a credible platform like IIFA promoting Indian Cinema Internationally, It’s our industry’s chance to showcase to an international audience the best of the biggest film industry in the world.”

The Kelvinator IIFA Awards have been conceptualized, produced and promoted by Wizcraft International. Viraf Sarkari, Director, Wizcraft International, said, “Our aim is to showcase Indian Cinema Internationally and to provide a platform to present the best in the Indian Film Industry to a global audience.”

The Kelvinator IIFA Awards is an opportunity for the Indian film industry to create awareness about one of the largest film industries in the world especially in terms of the number of films produced every year and reach out to the global Asian community and International mainstream audiences. The Indian Film Industry grosses an annual turnover of 200 million dollars internationally, sells 600 billion tickets worldwide and produces 800 movies a year. Kelvinator IIFA Awards as a platform an ideal way to showcase Indian cinema beyond its shores.
