Mihir Amar Upadhyay - A new star on the horizon

Like Bollywood superstar Sharaukh Khan, and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, the handsome small screen star Mihir Upadhyay has emerged as the most easily recognisable face in Mumbai. Mihir's tryst with success can serve as a source of inspiration to budding actors. He shot to fame after portraying the character of Amar in the famous teleserial ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. In addition to the teleserials like Kalash on Star TV and Mehndi Tere Naam Ki on Zee TV, Mihir has also bagged a few prestigious films which includes J P Dutta's Border II.

Mihir Upadhyay has the courage of conviction to implement his own ideas, and he religiously adheres to the virtues of patience, and dedicated hard work. His role models include Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachhan, Amir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, and Paresh Rawal. Mihir has floated a website: www.mihiramarhai.com, which is sponsored by Reflections & Cybersahibs. The site is an ideal interactive medium; it has a youthful appeal, and is supported with meticulous back-end engineering. The site features contest and games, which offers the winner, a dinner date with Mihir.

As the most popular face of the small screen, Mihir shares his knowledge in an exclusive interview with Mumbaibest.com.

1 How would you describe acting on the television?

Acting on the small screen offers a wonderful experience. The television facilitates an easy access to the houses of millions of viewers, which helps the actor to become an integral part of every family. Emoting the lives of different characters is an enthralling and challenging task. I would define acting as a sublime art; it is a prayer that takes me nearer to God. It also teaches human psychology and widens the horizons of knowledge and experience.

2 What is the difference between television and the big screen?

The big screen gains a leverage over television on some aspects like the characters, which assume larger-than-life-portrayal; the microscopic actions (of characters) are magnified and become easily conspicuous; and the grandeur and picturesation of different scenes are elaborated. However, in general, acting on big screen or television requires equal amount of sincerity and dedication.

3 How would you define the impact of the television on general public?

The success of teleserials like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, has certainly triggered an impact on the masses. People tend to identify themselves with the characters, that are depicted in the teleserials. On the other hand, a film creates an aura, which can linger in the memory of a person for a brief span of time.

4 Do you plan to showcase your talent on the big screen?
Yes, the big screen is my next step! Several projects have been confirmed. However, under the code of ethics, I cannot reveal anything untill the projects are officially announced.

5 To whom would you credit your success?
I attribute my success to God, my parents, family and all the fans for their love and support, which has spurred me towards success in life. My aim is to scale greater heights as an actor. I have faith in my convictions, and I always strive to lead an honest, and virtuous life.

6 What do you think about the growing public adulation?
The adulation is very, very inspiring... It is an inspiration, which has also endowed me with the responsibility of raising the professional standards that should match the expectations of the people. My website www.mihiramarhai.com, which has registered unprecedented number of fanmails, stands testimony to this growing public adulation.
