In
his first press conference held in Mumbai on 18 October, Aryan
Vaid, the winner of the Grasim Mr International award,
said that he was thrilled at having won the title and happy to do
his country proud. Also present were the first runner-up, Jorge
(from Mexico), second runner-up Xu Chong (from China) and
Mr Photogenic, Ezzio Cavaloro (from Venezuela). While the
foreign winners had problems communicating with the press, they
were more than willing to pose before the cameras.
The
3rd Grasim Mr. International competition was held at the magnificent
Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur on October 13, 2000. The event
was sponsored by Grasim Industries, a division of the Aditya Birla
Group. With some thirty contestants participating from various countries,
the pageant was a fifteen-day long affair. The panel of judges comprised
mostly Indians including famous personalities and acclaimed celebrities.
Carrying
a cash prize of US$6000 and the prestigious title of "Grasim
Mr. International," the contest provided a platform for showcasing
young talent . As a run up to the final event, three sub contests
were held on October 6. The main event was hosted by Dilip Tahil
and Laila Rouss. Artists like Malaika Arora, Ravena Tandon, and
Lucky Ali performed on stage.
On the final day, the contestants had to go through five rounds
. In the first round, participants showcased their country's culture
and heritage through the dress worn. This was followed by the swimsuit
round, which was the first of its kind in India. The contestants
were judged on the basis of their body structure, skin, the manner
in which they carried themselves, and stature. In the last and final
round, the shortlisted candidates were posed a question each.
Aryan Vaid came out tops, and after seeing him in the flesh , mumbaibest
