Tips for Hair Care
Increasing pollution and high stress levels have begun to
take its toll on the urban crowd in a major way today. One of the
most common problems that is encountered is hair loss and hair damage.
Here are some tips for you to help prevent hair loss as well as
ensure healthy hair. These are to be observed regularly for maximum
results.
1. Massage your scalp with your fingertips daily to promote circulation
in your scalp. Then brush or comb your hair every morning for it
helps in breaking sebum which very often clogs your hair follicles.
This alone helps in hair growth.
2. Avoid using hairdryers as much as possible . If used then try
and keep it away from the scalp. Avoid the use of hair lotions,
styling sprays, and gels for they block the hair follicles.
3. After a swim, shampoo your hair as quickly as possible to wash
away any chlorine residue. Chlorine is extremely damaging to the
hair and scalp. Over-exposure to the wind and sun can do lot of
damage to the hair and scalp. Tight hats and caps contribute to
poor circulation, and thereby deprive the hair of proper nutrition.
4. Sweat, dirt, and grime around the rim, inhibit follicle health
and contribute to build-up. In case of major hair fall consult a
medical physician. Proper medication should be taken.
5. High stress factors cause the human body to react by means
of fluctuating hormone levels which causes excessive oil secretion
(sebum) which results in hair loss. Pregnancy, nursing, menopause
even birth control medication can cause hair loss.
6. Avoid "crash and fad" diets. Proper nutritious meals along
with vitamin and mineral supplements is a key factor for healthy
hair and skin.
Here are a few homemade packs suited for different kinds of hair:
For Oily Hair
You need : cucumber juice, gram flour or corn flour, fuller's
earth or multani mitte, seasonal citric fruits (orange, lemon, tomato,
etc.) egg whites, wheatgerm powder
Directions: Mix fuller's earth and other dry ingredients
with cucumber juice and a puree of seasonal citric fruit. Pour some
flour into the mixture. Mix well to make the mixture smooth and
apply. Add more cucumber juice if necessary. Leave the conditioner
on for at least 20 minutes before rinsing.
For Normal Hair
You Need : buttermilk, wheat germ, fenugreek oat, seasonal pulpy
fruits (chikoo, mango, papaya, banana, etc.), egg whites (optional)
Directions: Mix wheat germ, oats, fenugreek and puree of
fruits in buttermilk and mix well. The mixture should be of smooth
consistency and not lumpy. Apply it to the hair and leave it on
for 20 - 30 minutes before rinsing. Repeat if desired.
For dry/curly Hair
Use a shampoo which is suited for dry and damaged hair. Use a good
conditioner and leave it on for some time but do not rinse it out
completely. Towel dry your hair and use a moisturiser and let your
hair dry naturally. Avoid using a blow dryer.
