Indian
Calling: Conference in Mumbai
'Indian Calling' Conference on January 5, 2001
The
Indian Merchant Chambers (IMC) will host the second `Indian
Calling' conference in Mumbai on January 5, 2001. The theme
of the conference is ``The Role of Overseas Indians in the 21st
century - Visions and Expectations'. Union Information and
Broadcasting minister, Sushma Swaraj, will inaugurate the
conference. Others who will address the delegates are union Minister
for Law and Judiciary, Arun Jaitley, Minister for Disinvestment,
Arun Shourie, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ram
Naik and former Finance Minister, Manmohan Singh.
Indian-born world business leaders like Lord Swaraj Paul
from United Kingdom and Manu Chandaria from Kenya are among
the 400 delegates expected to participate in the conference.
IMC's Secretary Y P Trivedi told mumbaibest.com that
the chamber had decided to make `India Calling' conference an annual
event.
"The next conference would not only actively pursue the
recommendations made at the last conference with the government,
but even explore innovative avenues to draw Indians settled abroad
closer to their country of origin. IMC would work hard towards bringing
about active participation of Indians settled abroad in the globalised
Indian economy, by utilising their competitive advantage and professional
business expertise. One of the plans in the pipeline is establishing
a `Millennium Centre' for accessing all sectors and meeting
demands in financial services , health care, housing, Information
Technology and professional services,'' said Trivedi.
