Master Jugnu Nanda
Master
Jugnu Nanda, the Director and Chief Instructor of Choi Kwang
- Do Martial Art, has devoted his entire life to the propagation
of martial arts in Mumbai. A close introspection of his achievements
brings to light his magnificent personality. Even after acquiring
mastery in Karate and Taekwondo with nearly 20 years of diligent
practice, Master Jugnu Nanda was always curious to find new techniques
and devices in order to make martial arts more effective and easy-to-learn.
In
1992, Master Nanda read an article on the revolutionary martial
arts techniques introduced by Korean Grandmaster Kwang Jo Choi
and promptly invited him to India. Grandmaster Choi is a 9th
degree black belt and an exponent of a revolutionary form of martial
art called Choi Kwang - Do Martial Art. He gave a demonstration
of his unique art. He was fluid in his movement and displayed devastating
firepower, which left Master Jugnu Nanda spell bound. Grandmaster
Choi emphasized that he had developed his unique art after 14 years
of extensive research. His revolutionary techniques, which are essentially
biomechanical, have been approved of by the medical fraternity of
the USA. These latest techniques eliminate hyperextension, jerking,
ensures complete safety, enhances fitness, strength, and enhances
the positive attitude of the practitioner. The stretching exercises
are based on Yoga and the techniques for punches and kicks are practical
and easy-to-learn.
Master Nanda mastered this revolutionary martial art and has been
teaching the same to his students for the past 8 years at St.
Xavier's High School in Vile Parle, Mumbai. He inducts students
from the age of 4 years and above. Any physically fit person can
join the classes and acquire a black belt degree after 3 to 4 years
of practice. Master Nanda told Mumbaibest.com, "Choi Kwang-Do
is a very safe and practical art. It not only helps to channelise
your energy in the right direction but also develops your confidence
and personality".
The international headquarters of Choi Kwang - Do Martial Art is
in Atlanta, U.S. Master Nanda takes his students to the US for extensive
training every year. The students are highly indebted to Master
Nanda. Twenty-five year old Virendra Waghela, who holds a
2nd degree black belt, owes his progress to the guidance of Master
Nanda. Waghela has been practicing martial arts with vigour and
enthusiasm for the past 10 years. Another 20 year-old Ripal Sonagre,
who holds a 2nd degree black belt, is a FYBCom. student of Sanskardham
College, Goregoan. Sonagre believes that his black belt degree will
help him to join the armed forces. In the words of 38-year-old Dhanesh
Chheda, a 3rd degree Dan Black Belt, Asst. Instructor and probably
the oldest student of Master Nanda, "Being a member of this great
organisation, I have learnt a new way of life. I want students to
achieve personal as well as professional satisfaction in life by
joining our martial arts classes "
