For suburban Mumbaikars, autorickshaws, which are more economical than taxis, are another mode of transport. There are more than 80,000 autos on the road in the suburbs. A separate Fare Chart is available for autos.

Tips for hiring Auto-rickshaws

  • Auto-rickshaws are allowed only in North Mumbai. No auto is allowed beyond Sion in Central side and Mahim on the Western line.

  • Autos are not advisable for pregnant women, since auto drivers are notorious for rash driving.

  • Always pay in accordance with the fare chart.

  • Carrying coins is a must, since most of the times drivers say they do not have change.

  • Stand in line for autos outside railway stations.
