What makes the Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply & Transport undertaking (BEST) the best? Its professional management and public patronage for clean buses and punctual service. Although ticket prices are slightly on the higher side, a regular commuter hardly complains, since they are justified.

With a fleet of 3,458 buses and a daily passenger traffic of 45 lakh, the service is the largest municipal enterprise in India. The BEST service operates within Mumbai Municipal limits and up to 20 kms beyond its limits. To help commuters board and alight from buses, yellow boxes have been painted at bus stops, which guide the driver to stop the bus at the right spot.

To motivate car owners to take the buses and to reduce traffic choke-ups, BEST has introduced luxury and air-conditioned buses on important routes. To bring down pollution levels, many buses run on Compressed Natural Gas [C.N.G].
