PUNDOLE
ART GALLERY
The Pundole Art Gallery was started in 1963 by Kali Pundole.
Its first show was featured artists like K H Ara, Badrinarayan, and
Pochkanwala. Before starting the gallery, Pundole had established
himself as a framer of paintings and photographs. The gallery is devoted
to modern Indian art, and has a "stable of artists" it rarely looks
beyond. Over the years, the gallery has exhibited the works of M F
Hussain, Akbar Padamsee, Laxman Shreshta, Badrinarayan, and Ram Kumar.
Pundole features only gallery-organised shows and is not rented out.
It has also published a few books. The gallery is now run by Dadiba
Pundole and Korshed Pundole.

THE
ART GALLERY OF THE NEHRU CENTRE
The Art Gallery of the Nehru Centre was established in November
1992. It aims to encourage and promote young artists and provide them
with a forum for exhibitions, lectures and workshops. The exhibitions
are mainly works of fine art, including paintings, sculptures, etchings,
photographs, etc. Once a year, when the gallery holds the Indian Master
exhibition, it collects the work of one Indian master from museums
and collectors and displays it to art aficionados. A comprehensive
catalogue is also published on the occasion. Besides the regular exhibitions,
the gallery organises several art-related activities like Chatak (a
monsoon show for art students and young professional artists), contests
for handicapped children and students of municipal schools, study
camps, screenings of films on art, etc.

PRITHVI
GALLERY
The Prithvi Gallery is a part of the Prithvi Theatre complex,
Prithviraj Kapoor's dream that was realised by Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer
Kendall. The gallery was inaugurated on November 4, 1994 with a solo
exhibition of Laxman Shreshtha titled "Recent Works," as part of the
50th anniversary celebrations of the original Prithvi Theatres, .
The Prithvi Gallery does more than promote artists by hosting exhibitions.
It aims at creating an interest and greater understanding of the fine
arts by means of seminars, slide shows, film shows and panel discussions
on the fine arts. The idea is develop interaction between the lay
person and the artist. The gallery, set in the foyer of the Prithvi
Theatre, does not rent out space and charges a commission of only
25%.

THE
CLASSIC SOURCE
The
Classic Source is one of the two art galleries in the city owned
by Haresh Chaganlal and Cecilia (Gigi) Chaganlal, the other being
Art Point. The Classic Source is a four-year-old gallery which
deals in the works of past and present Indian masters. It used to
be private gallery until April 1998, when it opened to the general
public. It has continuous displays of art works through the year,
starting in April.

POINT
Art Point is owned by art collectors
Cecilia (Gigi) Chaganlal and Haresh Chaganlal, and is located just
beside their more famed gallery The Classic Source. The idea
is to present affordable works of art of budding artists to emerging
collectors. The maximum price of an exhibit here is less than Rs 15,000/-
