Aditi Govitrikar
Diva with beauty and brains
With
porcelain-like skin texture and clear blue eyes, Aditi Govitrikar
is every girl's envy . She is blessed with looks and a personality
to match. "I never intended to be a model or an actress,"
says Aditi . Aditi had completed her MBBS and was due to specialise
in gynaecology, but life had other plans in store for her.
"One
day I was standing at a bus stop with a couple of friends, when
we spotted the billboard displaying the ad for the Gladrags Mega
Model Contest. One of my friends suggested that I take
part in it," says Aditi. She took part in the Gladrags
competition of 1994. "I was nervous throughout the competition,
not knowing what I was up to, and felt that it would be a better
idea to study instead of wasting time doing all this ," says
Aditi. However, Aditi's apprehensions proved wrong. She
emerged as the winner of the Most Beautiful Face and Beautiful Body.
And ever since, there has been no looking back for her.
"Even after I started modelling, I was a practicing doctor
but it soon proved to be too much to handle." Aditi settled
for modelling and acting . She has done high-profile ads for Ponds,
IFB, and Shoppers' Stop, but the recent Coke commercial with Hrithik
is one of her favourites.
"Working
with the father and son duo was an experince in itself . It
is amazing how in spite of his phenomenal success, Hrithik is so
down to earth. He is a fantastic human being," says Aditi.
And her comments on modelling: "Modelling does not really
allow one to grow as a person, but it definitely pays well. Doing
commercials is much more exciting, as it gives you the chance to
emote, and not just look pretty."
Aditi joined tinsel town when Riffat, a designer for whom
Aditi had worked, suggested her name for the movie Soch
in which she stars against Arbaaz Khan and Sanjay Kapoor.
It is a murder mystery in which she plays the part of an obsessive
wife. Though the character borders slightly on the negative side,
playing the role is a challenge, asserts Aditi. She, however, made
her debut with a Telegu movie Tamru, which was a success
down south. She is not in the least bit worried about doing films
with heroes who have no box office standing.
"It is my performance in the movie that people will look
at," states Aditi. Asked whether models make bad actresses,
she says "I hope to dispel the notion that models cannot
act."
On the personal front, Aditi is happily married to her long time
sweetheart Dr Muffazil Lakdawala, and she recently gave birth
to a baby girl. However, motherhood is not a problem as far as her
career was concerned, as the gorgeous doctor was back to the ramp
a few months after she gave birth. Talking about future plans, she
says, "If acting does not work out, I will continue with
modelling for as long as I can."
