Amitabh
Bachchan
Amitabh
Bachchan is the biggest star to be born on the silver screen. He
redefined the concept of super star in Hindi cinema. With Amitabh
Bachchan, the angry young man became a permanent feature in the
Hindi film scene; the cinema was never the same again. Bachchan's
journey as an actor did not begin auspiciously - he was rejected
in his very first screen test. He got his break with K A Abbas'
Saat Hindustani but the film that finally got him recognition was
Prakash Mehra's Zanjeer in 1973.
He
angry young man was born and thereafter he never looked back. During
his two-decade-old tenure as the bollywood superstar, he acted in
over a hundred films and most of his films were mega hits. Don,
Mukaddar Ka Sikandar, Mr Natwarlal, Dewaar, Sholay, Kala Pathar
and Trishul were some of his most successful films. Bachchan also
excelled in comic roles in films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Chupke
Chupke and Namak Halal. Kabhie Kabhie, Bemisaal and Silsila saw
him as the romantic, while Reshma aur Shera and Saudagar saw him
off the beaten track.
His
towering height, deep brooding eyes and baritone made him stand
apart from other heroes of his generation. He had a brief stint
in politics when he entered parliament from the prestigious Allahabad
constituency - a move he was to regret later. His business venture
Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL) was his biggest flop.
Amitabh is slated to appear in many new movies in the coming months.
Today he towers on the small screen in Kaun Banega Karodpati.
