The Master Blaster

The little master, Sunil Manohar Gavaskar in his glorious 17-year international career became a legend not only on the domestic turf, but also on the international cricket arena. He made his debut in 1971 in the Caribbean where he scored 774 runs in just four tests making him one of India's most promising batsmen.

He has to his credit - The maximum number of test centuries (34 in all); the first member of the 10,000-run club in tests; the only player to score a century in each innings on three occasions; the only Indian to score 1,000 runs in a calendar year thrice.

His style and finesse can be seen off the field also, in his modelling assignments and cricket commentary, which he delivers with little or no effort. He beats the ordinary with his determination, self-belief and concentration.
